I am an Associate Professor of Government at Hamilton College. I am currently serving as the director of the public policy program as well as the faculty director of the Arthur Levitt Public Affairs Center. My research and teaching focus on the ways that state actors and institutions condition political life. One strand of my research explores the effects of subnational state capacity on protest and protest management in Mexico. A coauthored project explores the effects of state capacity and partisan coalitions on financial inclusion in Latin America. Finally, I have begun a new project on the politics of prison reform. When I’m not working, you can regularly find me climbing or photographing people climbing, listening to records, or playing old-time fiddle.
